Babi Guling Ibu Ayu Komang. Back in college time, A housemate of mine once recommended this place as an alternative for Nasi Babi/Nasi Babi Guling in Surabaya just in case I got sick of having Peneleh over and over again (see my previous post of Nasi Babi Peneleh/Pig Rice). I could have like 3-4 brunches of Nasi Babi in a week back in those days and weirdly enough I never got bored of them. How time flies.

This one is more like Babi Guling style (roasted suckling pig) not Nasi Campur Babi (crispy fried pork pieces). Differences are in their choices of toppings which you guys can compare by yourselves but believe me, both in Bali and in Surabaya, all styles of Nasi Babi/Pig Rice are good. Flawless. Seriously. Except when some of the menu elements are not 100% fresh.

Ordered Nasi Babi Guling Spesial, the base of the dish is steamed red/white rice. Topped with some stir fried veg dishes, stewed pork in soy sauce, roasted pork pieces, a piece of pork skin, a piece of fried pork lung, and sate lilit/that skewer thingy. Some of them tastes a tad weird to me, perhaps because they keep on reheating the dishes over days but they were still edible no probs.

The other minor setback is apparently some of their pork meat dishes’ fat didn’t render down properly, and I found some jiggly fats sliding around in our plates. A bit of fat is good, always good. Too much and/or a big chunk of them is no good. Not everyone can tolerate it like me, some people can simply feel sick by having a chunk of fat in their mouth (are you one of them?)

Have some time to dine/order foods from these small restos guys when you can, because more and more delish places are closing down their businesses for good due to people are not buying enough food from them. Save local businesses, eat some authentic foods.
